The English Plus Football programme takes place with West Bromwich Albion coaches both at the WBA Academy and on the University of Worcester 3G football pitches. We welcome all levels of football players. Included in your course:
- 10 hours of interactive football training per week
- WBA qualified coaches to keep you on your toes!
- Weekly visit for football coaching at the WBA Academy
- End of course trial to win prizes and accolades
- Review of your football skills by the coaches
Richard Holmes of The Albion Foundation says …
“The training programme is devised around technical, tactical, psychological, social and physical elements of the game in line with the key principles of play. Sessions will be tailored to develop individual players and units and cover a variety of important elements of the game, all delivered by experienced, highly qualified coaches.“

Fun English Activities 09.00-12.30 daily
English lessons take place at the Royal Grammar School, a 700 year old traditional English school in the centre of Worcester. Lessons focus on building confidence in speaking and listening in English. Included in your course:
- 15 hours of English lessons per week
- Qualified English teachers
- Lessons relevant to language needed to play football
- We develop your confidence in using English
- Hot lunches included in school Monday – Friday
Sue Johns of Kingsway says …
“The football related English language activities are designed to expose students to a wide variety of experiences which combine to give them confidence to use English, and skills to take away with them – important for those aspiring to play internationally.“
Examples of classroom activities include:
- A Worcester city ‘Discovery Challenge’ which encourages the students to explore and learn about the city by following a set of instructions, think on their feet, communicate with each other. Working in teams develops the communication skills needed on the football pitch too.
- Functional lessons focusing on football as well as the foundations of English language. These will include:
- quizzes in teams
- vocabulary building to help on the pitch
- training and nutrition advice
- visits from coaches for a live Q&A session so the teenagers are exposed to ‘real’ English
“Through the week, language challenges are set and at the end of the week, we have a presentation session with speeches based on their achievements on the pitch as well as in the classroom. Lessons are designed to work closely with football training sessions so that the vocabulary can be used and understood.
The courses give students a wide and interesting variety of activities, all with a focus on English Language related to playing football to keep them stimulated and engaged – the key to making progress.”
